Argument for publishing specs supported by a minority
Acceptance does not require a majority. It requires only the collective endorsement of N people. I am taking N to be something like 10-20 people.
Why do we choose some N number of people?
- We want to make sure that the idea has had enough exposure, so that if there is already an existing standard, someone in the group should know about it, and be able to relay knowledge about it. More people = more likelihood that someone will know of an existing standard.
- We want to make sure that there is some degree of support. We don't want someone to wake up with an idea, and just immediately start putting it into other people's code. That person needs to gain support for the idea.
